Meet Nike

June 21, 2010

Prepare to have your mind blown by cuteness. This is Nike, an eleven-week-old boxer puppy who is all gangly legs and huuuuge paws. He was like a little Slinky throughout the entire shoot. I tried to sit him in certain parts of the yard for a pretty background. He’d immediately flop over, lay limply for a half-second and then take off, bounding across the grass and eventually tripping over those gigantic paws. It was a fun shoot with tons of laughs.

Nike was also my guinea pig for the new lens I recently received for my birthday—a Nikon 50 mm f/1.8 lens. This lens allows me to get the shallow depth of field I’m such a fan of. For the non-photo geeks, shallow depth of field is when the image has a particular point of focus and then the rest is all blurred out. (Take a look at my past work and it’s really not a surprise that I love this lens so much.)  I had a great time playing with the shallow depth of field during this shoot.

So take a look and feel free to comment! :)

This one’s my personal favorite…

The next two images were taken with a LensBaby…I’m still experimenting with it. I’m re-learning how to manual focus (something I haven’t done since my Black and White Photography I days) and I’m also figuring out where the focus goes at different angles.
